Cents take down the Chiefs 1-0

The Merritt Centennials maintain their second place standing by beating the Chilliwack Chiefs 1-0 in BC Hockey League action on Saturday night at the Prospera Centre.
 
Brent Fletcher got the only point for the Cents (19-10-2-5) when he scored an unassisted goal near the end of the first period. 
 
Chilliwack (19-12-0-2) couldn't answer back despite many attempts. 
 
Lino Chimienti got his second shutout by making 20 saves for Merritt in the win and earning third star of the night. Chiefs goalie Bryton Udy turned aside 24 Centennials shots.
 
There were no power play goals as the Centennials went 0-for-3 on the power play while the Chiefs went 0-for-5 on their man advantage opportunities.
 
With the win, the Cents have just six regulation losses in their last 29 games and continue to sit in second place in the BCHL's Interior Conference, five points ahead of Chilliwack and six ahead of Prince George. Merritt is 17 points behind first place Penticton.
 
The Centennials next game is on Friday, January 6th against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks at the Sunwave Centre.
