Cents lose to Warriors 6-5 in OT

Merritt, BC – December 29, 2011

 

The Merritt Centennials suffered a disappointing overtime lose against the Westside Warriors 6-5 in BC Hockey League action on Friday night at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena.

 

Regan Soquila lead the charge with a goal and three assist for the Cents (18-10-2-5) while Chad Brears made two goals and one assist. Evan Stack got a goal and an assist while Silvan Harper opened the scoring for the Cents. Reece Willcox had two assists while Brayden Low, Ross Mancuso and Brandon Pfeil each got an assists on the night. 

 

Westside (11-17-1-5) came out swinging with Max French scoring two goals and Marcus Basara, Michael King, Connor Dempsey and Shawn Hochhausen all getting a goal apiece.

 

Lino Chimienti took over during the second period after Tyler Steel made 11 saves on 15 shots. Lino finished out the game with 24 saves for Merritt in the loss while Dwayne Rodrigue turned aside 34 Centennials shots for the Warriors.

 

The Centennials went 3-for-6 on the power play while the Warriors went 1-for-6 on their man advantage opportunities.

 

With the loss, the Cents have just six regulation losses in their last 28 games and continue to sit in second place in the BCHL's Interior Conference, three points ahead of Chilliwack and four ahead of Prince George. Merritt is 19 points behind first place Penticton.

 

The Centennials next game is on Friday, December 30th against the Chilliwack Chiefs at the Prospera Centre.
