Cents on a Winning Streak with a 3-1 Victory over Vernon

Merritt, BC – January 7, 2012

 

Regan Soquila earned a goal and an assist for the Merritt Centennials in their win against the Vernon Vipers 3-1 in BC Hockey League action on Saturday night at the Wesbild Centre.

 

Dylan Chanter and Brendan Lamont each scored a goal for the Cents (21-10-2-5) along with Soquila's empty netter.  Assists for the night went to Brandon Bruce, Reece Willcox, and Billy Marshall.  

 

Colton Sparrow scored the lone goal for Vernon (17-16-1-2) on a second period power play. 

 

Lino Chimienti made 35 saves for Merritt in the win while Vipers goaltender Kirby Halcrow stopped 32 Cents shots.

 

The Centennials went 0-for-2 on the power play while the Vipers went 1-for-3 on their man advantage opportunities.

 

With the win, the Cents have just six regulation losses in their last 31 games and continue to sit in second place in the BCHL's Interior Conference, six points ahead of Prince George and nine ahead of Chilliwack. Merritt is 19 points behind first place Penticton.

 

The Centennials next game is at home on Friday, January 13th against the Vernon Vipers at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena.
