Cents Acquire 20 Year Old Forward Carter Shinkaruk from Powell River

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Merritt, BC – January 9, 2011

The Merritt Centennials are pleased to announce the acquisition of forward Carter Shinkaruk (91) from the Powell River Kings for future considerations.

Shinkaruk, who’s from Langley, BC, has 8 goals and 5 assists for 13 points in 38 games this season with Powell River. He also played the previous two seasons with the Kings, finishing with 13 goals and 25 assists for 38 points in 112 games. Shinkaruk also played one game with the Langley Chiefs in 2008-09, scoring one goal.

“We are very excited to add a player like Carter to our dressing room," said Cents GM & Head Coach Luke Pierce. "He is a guy with tremendous experience in our league and is coming from an organization that has seen much success in recent years."

"We expect Carter to add his maturity and experience to our already strong leadership core and also believe he has more significant offensive potential than his stats show to date, and hopefully a new surrounding and style will help him reach that potential," continued Pierce. "Carter is a first class kid from a great family and we look forward to him meeting our expectations in Merritt."
