Cents in a Slump with a 3-1 Loss in Westside

Merritt, BC – February 4, 2012

 

The drum wasn't the only thing lost as goaltender Dwayne Rodrigue stopped 37 Cents shots to lead the Westside Warriors to a 3-1 victory over the Merritt Centennials in BC Hockey League action on Saturday night at Royal LePage Place.

 

Chad Brears scored the lone goal for the Centennials (26-16-2-5) with assists from Reece Willcox and Silvan Harper. Despite the lone goal the Cents outshot the Warriors 38-22. 

 

David Pope lead Westside (17-24-2-5) with two assists while goals went to Marcus Basara, Josh Monk and Shawn Hochhausen.

 

Tyler Steel made 19 saves for Merritt in the loss.

 

The Centennials went 0-for-3 on the power play while the Warriors went 1-for-3 on their man advantage opportunities. 

 

With the loss, the Cents now have twelve regulation losses in their last 42 games but continue to sit in second place in the BCHL's Interior Conference, five points ahead of Prince George and eight points ahead of Chilliwack. Merritt is 25 points behind first place Penticton.

 

The Centennials next game is on Friday, February 10th against the Vernon Vipers at the Wesblid Centre.
