Cents Continue to Fall Short with a 4-1 Loss to Vernon

Merritt, BC – February 10, 2012

 

Goaltender Kirby Halcrow stopped 28 Cents shots as the Merritt Centennials lost to the Vernon Vipers 4-1 in BC Hockey League action on Friday night at the Wesbild Centre.

 

Evan Stack scored the lone goal for the Centennials (26-17-2-5), with assists from Reece Willcox and Chad Brears, on a power play midway through the second peroid.

 

Darren Nowick lead Vernon (25-20-1-2) with a goal and an assit while goal also went to Riley Hunt, John Knisley and Michael Zalewski.

 

Tyler Steel made 24 saves for Merritt in the loss.

 

The Centennials went 1-for-4 on the power play while the Vipers were unable to utilize of any of their four man-advantage opportunities. 

 

With the loss, the Cents now have thirteen regulation losses in their last 43 games but continue to sit in second place in the BCHL's Interior Conference, three points ahead of Prince George and six points ahead of Chilliwack and Vernon. Merritt is 37 points behind first place Penticton.

 

The Centennials next game is at home on Tuesday, February 14th against the Vernon Vipers at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena.
