Cents eke out a 1-0 overtime win in Prince George

Tyler Steel stopped all 24 shots he faced and Evan Stack scored the lone goal of the game at 1:26 of overtime as the Merritt Centennials posted a 1-0 victory over the Prince George Spruce Kings in BCHL actio Saturday night.

The shutout is Steel's first of his junior 'A' career. It came after he gave up six goals in his last start Tuesday in Vernon. Stack's goal is his ninth of the season while Reece Willcox chipped in with an assist on the deciding goal. The win is the second straight in overtime for Merritt (19-21-0-6) after a 4-3 victory Friday in Quesnel.

Rookie Kirk Thompson made 24 saves for Prince George (10-35-0-3).

The Cents finished 0-for-4 on the power play while the Spruce Kings also wound up 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

Merritt's next game is Sunday in Quesnel as the Centennials wind up a three game weekend.
