Cents Bite Back at Home in a 7-1 Win Over Vernon

Merritt, BC – February 14, 2012
 
Brandon Bruce earned the first star for the Merritt Centennials in their win over the Vernon Vipers 7-1 in BC Hockey League action on Tuesday night at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena.
 
Both Regan Soquila and Brandon Bruce scored two goals and an assist apiece for the Centennials (27-17-2-5). Chad Brears scored a goal and two assists while Carter Shinkaruk scored a goal and an assist. Brent Fletcher also scored a goal and while Evan Stack and Richard Sabourin each earned two assists. Assists also went to Reece Willcox, Dylan Chanter, Brandon Pfeil and Sean Maktaak.  
 
John Knisley scored the lone goal for Vernon (25-22-1-2) early in the third period.
 
Lino Chimienti made 36 saves for Merritt in the win while Vipers goaltender Kirby Halcrow stpped 24 Cents shots.
 
Neither team was able to take advantage of the extra man with the Centennials going 0-for-5 on the power play and the Vipers going 0-for-3. 
 
With the win, the Cents now have thirteen regulation losses in their last 44 games and have regained their second place position in the BCHL's Interior Conference, one point ahead of Prince George and six points ahead of Chilliwack.
 
The Centennials next game is on Friday, February 17th against the Coquitlam Express at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Centre.
