Cents Take the Express With an 8-0 Win in Coquitlam

Merritt, BC – February 17, 2012
 
Tyler Steel had his third shutout of the season, stopping 31 shots, for the Merritt Centennials in their win over the Coquitlam Express 8-0 in BC Hockey League action on Friday night at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Centre.
 
Evan Stack scored two goals and an assist for the Centennials (28-17-2-5) and Jakob Reichert scored two goals. Carter Shinkaruk, Regan Soquila, Billy Marshall and Brandon Bruce all scored a goal and an assist apiece, Marshall's goal shorthanded and unassisted. Chad Brears, Brent Fletcher and Silvan Harper each earned two assists while assists also went to Sean Maktaak and Tyler Martin.  
 
Goaltender Khaleed Devji started the night for Coquitlam (30-18-2-2) and stopped 25 Cents shots before being pulled early in the third period after letting in 6 goals. Cole Huggins stepped in to finished the night between the posts and saved 8 of 10 shots.
 
Neither team was able to take advantage of the extra man with the Centennials going 0-for-3 on the power play and the Express going 0-for-5. 
 
With the win, the Cents now have thirteen regulation losses in their last 45 games and have regained their second place position in the BCHL's Interior Conference, one point ahead of Prince George and seven points ahead of Chilliwack.
 
The Centennials next game is at home on Saturday, February 18th against the Chilliwack Chiefs at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena.
