Cents Beat Prince George 4-3

Prince George, BC – December 9, 2011

Lino Chimienti earned the 1st star with 31 saves as the Merritt Centennials defeated the Prince George Spruce Kings 4-3 on Friday in BC Hockey League action at the Prince George Coliseum.

Evan Stack and Brandon Pfeil both had a goal and an assist for the Centennials (16-8-2-4) while Brandon Bruce and Jakob Reichert got a goal apiece. Regan Soquila had two assists in the win while Sean Maktaak, Dylan Chanter, Richard Sabourin and Chad Brears each had one.

Paul De Jersey, Michael Colantone and Tyson Witala scored for the Spruce Kings (12-12-1-3).

Ty Swabb stopped 33 shots in the Prince George defeat.

The Centennials went 2-for-4 on the power play as the Spruce Kings went 1-for-7 with the man advantage.

With the win, the Cents have just four regulation losses in their last 23 games and sit in second place in the BCHL's Interior Conference, three points ahead of Chilliwack and seven points in front of Vernon. Merritt is 14 points behind first place Penticton.

The Centennials next game is against Trail at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena on Saturday, December 10th.
