Cents Shut Out Trail 3-0

Merritt, BC – December 10, 2011
 
Tyler Steel made 27 saves for his second shutout of the season as the Merritt Centennials blanked the Trail Smoke Eaters 3-0 in BC Hockey League action on Saturday night at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena.
 
Brandon Pfeil opened the scoring for Merritt (17-8-2-4) at 0:44 of the first period and also got an assist on the power play. Evan Stack scored on the power play and Chad Brears iced the game with an empty netter at 19:01 of the third period. Regan Soquila had two assists while Silvan Harper, Sean Maktaak and Evan Stack each had an assist on the night.
 
Lyndon Stanwood made an amazing 43 saves for Trail (5-21-1-3) in the loss.
 
The Centennials went 1-for-3 on the power play and the Smoke Eaters failed to score on any of their three man advantage opportunities.
 
With the win, the Cents have just four regulation losses in their last 24 games and sit in second place in the BCHL's Interior Conference, three points ahead of Chilliwack and nine ahead of Vernon. Merritt is 14 points behind first place Penticton.
 
The Centennials next game is at home on Tuesday, December 13th against Penticton at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena.
