Cents Acquire Jones from Nanaimo

Merritt, BC – October 1, 2009

The Merritt Centennials are pleased to announce the acquisition of defenceman Mitch Jones (91) from the Nanaimo Clippers in exchange for Jake Baker (91). Jones had earlier been acquired by the Clippers from Penticton.

Jones played in seven games this season with Vees, recording no points and four penalty minutes. The Delta product skated with the PIJHL's Richmond Sockeyes last season, posting 15 goals and 16 assists in 46 games. Of the 15 goals, eight came on the power play. In the Sockeyes run to the PIJHL championship, Jones had 6 goals and 3 assists in 13 games. Two of his 6 goals came shorthanded while another came on the power play.

“He's a player that is versatile enough to play both defence and forward,” said Cents GM Tyler Forsythe. “Jones was a very good player at the junior 'B' level last season and the previous season in Major Midget, we think he has the ability to be an impact player in Merritt.”

Jones will make his Centennials debut Saturday night at home against Salmon Arm.
