Cents Acquire Goaltender Austin Roden from Nanaimo

The Merritt Centennials today announced the acquisition of goaltender Austin Roden from the Nanaimo Clippers in exchange for future considerations.

The 19-year-old has a 2-4-1 record with the Clippers this season along with a 3.17 goals-against-average and a .905 save percentage.

“We’re happy to add another experienced goalie to our roster. We didn’t plan on Jake Berger play every single game for us so early in the season,” said Cents GM and Head Coach Joe Martin. “Jake has played outstanding for us, but our plans are to have healthy competition at all positions.”

Roden – who’s from Victoria, BC – has a career BCHL record of 11-14-2 with a 3.17 GAA, a .901 SV% and two shutouts in 34 games. He is a graduate of the South Island Royals of the BC Major Midget League, where he played 47 games between 2014 and 2016.

“We fully expect Jake and Austin to push each other to be better every day, which we feel will be good for both of them. Austin is ready to play now and provides immediate help as we head out on a road trip to Vancouver Island this weekend,” added Martin.
