Cents Win Big On Island Trip

The Merritt Centennials picked up a possible 5 out of 6 points on their Island trip this past weekend.

 

Friday night the Cents steam rolled passed the Victoria Grizzlies, (10-8-3-0), with a 6-0 win with Jacob Berger getting his first shutout of this season. Goals hailed from six different players with Mathieu Gosselin opening the scoring with the rest of the goals coming from, Zach Court, Matthew Kopperud, Henry Cleghorn, Rylan Van Unen and Zach Zorn.

 

Saturday night the Cents rolled into Alberni Valley to take on the Bulldogs (7-9-1-3), with the game ending in a 3-3 tie. Rylan Van Unen opened the scoring in the second period with goals coming from Nick Wicks and Zach Zorn.

 

Sunday afternoon, the Cents arrived in Surrey, to take on the Eagles, (9-9-2-1). Surrey opened the scoring on the power play at 1:11 of the first as the Cents took a 2 minute minor penalty for delay of game. The Eagles quickly jumped to a 2-0 lead as John Wesley got the puck past Jake Berger. The Cents got on the board as Rylan Van Unen got the puck past Nic Tallarico. Captain Tyrell Buckley tied things up at 10:09 of the first chasing Tallarico from the net and having Daniel Davidson come in. The rest of the Cents goals hailed from Brendan Schneider, Henry Cleghorn and Zach Zorn. The Cents went on to win this game in a thrilling 5-4 victory.

 

The Cents are in Salmon Arm to take on the Silverbacks, (9-10-2-0), on Friday at 7pm at the Shaw Centre. You can listen to the game as always on Q101 with Jared Thomas.
