Q&A with Cents Forward Jeff Jones

This is the first installment of getting to know some of the Cents players who'll be returning with the team this season.

First up, it's 1991-born forward, #11 – Jeff Jones.

Jones is entering his second season with the Centennials after leading all team rookies in scoring with 52 points in 60 games. The Revelstoke product was second on the Cents in goals with 27, first in power play goals with 8 and led the team in playoff scoring with three points in four games. Jones also finished seventh in rookie scoring in the BCHL.

Cents: How has your summer gone so far?

Jeff: So far my summer has been great, just been working at a restaurant doing delivery for them and been working out of course. Also I have been finishing up school as I graduate June 30th.

Cents: Has your training changed from last summer to this summer at all?

Jeff: My training has changed a bit from last summer. I have been following a Twist workout and this type of training is allowing me to get stronger but I am still focusing quite a bit on cardio, plyo and quick feet drills.

Cents: Has your nutrition changed at all?

Jeff: No my nutrition has not changed, I try to eat healthy but still have junk food now and then seeing how it's the off season.

Cents: Did Coach Pierce tell you anything to work on specifically in the off-season?

Jeff: I wasn't told anything specifically to work on, but change of speed was mentioned. I plan on just trying to get stronger, quicker and continue to work on skills such as shooting and stick handling.

Cents: Since Coach Pierce took over as head coach last season, you saw increased responsibility on the top two forward lines, how do you feel you can continue to develop from that experience?

Jeff: Just learning and knowing what it takes to play at this level. This year I know more of what to expect and I think I will be more prepared based on last year?s experiences.

Cents: Are you excited to play against any team in particular this season?

Jeff: I?m pretty excited to play against Trail as we both hate each other from last year. I'm also looking forward to playing against Salmon Arm as we had pretty good success against them in the last 4 or 5 games and also Vernon because you always want to beat the best and I want to beat them this year. Plus I have been cut from all three teams so its not hard to get pumped up to play them.

Cents: Is there anyone in hockey you kind of model your game after?

Jeff: Not really, my whole game is probably modeled after a bunch of players, not just one player specifically. I pick certain things from different players that I try to copy or play just like them. Some players that I model myself after are Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin, Danny Briere, Mike Cammellari, Jonathan Toews and Mike Richards.

Cents: Well Jeff, thanks for this and we're all looking forward to seeing you for training camp in August!

Jeff: Thanks!
