Chad Brears scored with 25 seconds left in the first overtime period to give the Merritt Centennials a come-from-behind win over the Vernon Vipers in BC Hockey League action Friday night.
Evan Stack had a pair of assists to help Merritt (21-28-1-6) get back into the win column and hand Vernon its second straight loss. Regan Soquila and Dustin Lebrun also scored for the Centennials who overcame a 2-1 third period deficit. Jeff Jones, Billy Marshall and Steve Wall contributed an assist each.
Dylan Walchuk and Darren Nowick scored for Vernon (33-11-4-9).
Lino Chimienti turned aside 33 of 35 shots for the Centennials while Blake Voth made 19 saves for the Vipers.
Merritt finished 0-for-2 on the power play. Vernon went 1-for-4 with the man advantage.
The Centennials next game is Saturday in Langley as Merritt plays its final road regular season game against the Chiefs. Game time is 7 pm.
