The Merritt Centennials opened a stretch of five straight road games Wednesday night in Cowichan Valley with a 2-1 loss to the Capitals.
Stephen Wall scored the lone goal for the Cents, with assists to Dustin Lebrun and Jakob Reichert.
Tyler Jones, with the winner, and Mike Hammond notched goals for Cowichan Valley.
Lino Chimienti was stellar in goal for the Centennials despite the loss, making 20 saves, including many of the highlight variety, while Derek Dun got the win for the Capitals, kicking out 27 Merritt shots.
The Cents finished 0/5 on the power play. Cowichan Valley went 1/4.
Merritt continues its Vancouver Island road trip Friday in Nanaimo.
