Cents Improve to 2-0 in BCHL Pre-Season With a 2-1 Overtime Win in Westside

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

West Kelowna, BC – September 3, 2011

The Merritt Centennials are now 2-0 on the pre-season after a 2-1 overtime win over the Westside Warriors at Royal LePage Place in West Kelowna.

It was a game dominated by special teams as the Centennials opened the scoring on a power play in the second period on an unassisted Evan Stack goal. That goal almost stood up as the winner, but Warriors forward Evan Anderson notched a power play goal with 13 seconds left in the third period to send the game to overtime.

In the extra frame, Stack scored his second goal of the game on the power play with 1:10 left in overtime to give the Cents the victory.

Veteran netminders Lino Chimienti and Tyler Steel split the goaltending duties for the Centennials in their first action of the pre-season.

The Cents next exhibition game is Friday night at home against the SFU Clan of the BCIHL.
