Cents Graduating Defenceman Ryne Bodger Commits to St. Scholastica

Merritt, BC – May 10, 2010

The Merritt Centennials are pleased to announce that graduating defenceman Ryne Bodger has committed to attend the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota and suit up for the NCAA Division III Saints for the 2010-11 season.

Bodger recently concluded his final BCHL campaign by helping the Centennials reach the playoffs for the first time since the 2006-07 season. The 20 year old also set a career high with 19 points.

In three BCHL seasons split between Cowichan Valley, Powell River and Merritt, Bodger totaled 10 goals and 44 points in 132 games.

“We are very excited for Ryne as he embarks on the next stage in his hockey career,” said Cents head coach and GM Luke Pierce. “I have no doubts that Ryne will be successful at the next level, as he was a pleasure to work with here in Merritt and his abilities will allow him every opportunity to succeed.”

“This also represents the beginning of what we are aspiring to accomplish here in Merritt, which is to provide all athletes with an opportunity to further not only their hockey careers, but their education as well. On behalf of the entire Centennials organization, I thank Ryne for his contributions during his time in Merritt and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
