Cents grad Bryan Leitch wins NCAA scoring title

Seniorforward Bryan Leitch (Merritt Centennials/BCHL) became the firstQuinnipiac University men?s ice hockey player in school history to leadNCAA Division I in scoring after totaling 59 points over 39 games for a1.51 points per game average. Leitch also led the nation with 47assists at a 1.21 per game clip.

Leitch was named to the ECACHockey Second Team this season while also being announced as a HobeyBaker Memorial Award candidate.

This past weekend, Leitchparticipated in the 2009 NCAA Frozen Four Skills Competition, finishingsecond in the hardest-shot competition. Leitch was the first player inNCAA Division I men?s ice hockey to reach the 40- and 50-point marksthis season while finishing the year as one of seven players in thenation to total 50 points for the year.

Leitch finished fourpoints of ahead of second-place scorer Colin Wilson, who totaled 54points for Boston University, the 2009 NCAA Division I NationalChampion. The remaining 50-point scorers include Air Force?s JacquesLamoureux (53 points), Michigan?s Aaron Palushaj (50) and Mercyhurst?sSteve Cameron (50) and Minnesota Duluth?s MacGregor Sharp.

Leitch?s47 assists were also nine more than Wilson?s 38, making him the onlyplayer to break the 40-assist mark this season. Leitch?s 47 assistswere the most for a single season in Quinnipiac men?s ice hockeyhistory, while his 59 points this year are the most for the program atthe Division I level and third all-time. His 169 career points matchQuinnipiac?s Division I scoring record, while his 116 career assistsrank second all-time at Quinnipiac.
