Cents Get Shutout by Penticton 9-0

Merritt, BC – January 25, 2012
 
Michael Garteig stopped all 32 Cents shots as the Merritt Centennials were shutout, for the first time this season, by the Penticton Vees 9-0 in BC Hockey League action on Wednesday night at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena.
 
The Cents (26-13-2-5) couldn't take advantage of any of their offensive opportunities and were outshot 51-32. 
 
Though Steven Fogarty paced Penticton (38-3-0-2) with two goals and four points, Wade Murphy also scored twice and five Vees had a multiple point night.
 
Lino Chimienti made 42 saves for Merritt in the loss.
 
The Centennials when 0-for-3 on the power play while Penticton capitalized on a seven minute power play, five for fighting, and went 5-for-6 on their man advantage opportunities.
 
With the loss, the Cents have just nine regulation losses in their last 39 games and continue to sit in second place in the BCHL's Interior Conference, twelve points ahead of Chilliwack and Prince George who are tied for points. Merritt is 19 points behind first place Penticton.
 
The Centennials next game is on Friday, January 27th against the Chilliwack Chiefs at the Prospera Centre.
