Cents Drop A 2-1 Decision in Trail

For only the second time this month the Merritt Centennials lost in regulation time, 2-1 to the Trail Smoke Eaters.

The lone Cents goal was scored by Silvan Harper (14).

Assists – Brent Fletcher and Kevin Lohan.

In a game where the Cents, at one point were down 2-0, one very bright spot was the play of Russell Sanderson in goal.  He made his 3rd start in the last 5 games and continues to look comfortable and confident, this time turning away 28 saves including a number of breakaway and odd man opportunities.

With the loss, the Cents remain 6 points back of the top spot in the Interior Division with 1 game in hand and one more matchup against the Penticton Vees.  The gap between second and third is now 5 points between the Cents and the West Kelowna Warriors.

Next for the Merritt Centennials is a final matchup against the Penticton Vees at the South Okanagan Events Centre on Friday night.  You can hear all the action on Q101 or Q101.ca with Voice of the Cents Graham Turnbull, starting at 6:30 with the pregame show.
