Cents Drop 3-2 Double OT Nail Biter to Penticton

Merritt, BC – October 15, 2010

The Merritt Centennials scored twice in the third period to battle back from a 2-0 deficit, but fell 3-2 in double overtime against the Penticton Vees Friday night at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena.

The Vees were led by Joey Holka, who scored a pair of goals including the OT winner while Joey Benik notched Penticton's other marker.

Merritt's offence came from Regan Soquila and Max Vallis as they each scored. Reece Willcox,  David Sabey, Jeff Jones and Steve Tresierra all had assists in the loss.

Joel Rumpel got his seventh win of the season in goal for the Vees, making 23 saves. Newly acquired Lino Chimenti earned second star honours in his Centennials debut, kicking out 34 Penticton shots.

The Vees went 1/7 on the power play while the Cents were 0/2 with the man advantage.

Merritt's next game is Saturday at home against Coquitlam while Penticton's next action is next Friday at home against Vernon.

GAME NOTES: Defenceman Brett Kolins, who the Centennials acquired from Victoria on Wednesday, didn't play after choosing not to report to Merritt. . . .Ben Reinbolt, who plays for the KIJHL's Princeton Posse, made his BCHL debut as an AP. . . .Brent Fletcher of the PIJHL's Ridge Meadows Flames and Payton Schaefer of the KIJHL's Kamloops Storm each skated in their second straight game. . . .Cents forward Jeff Jones received a minor and a game misconduct for checking from behind in the first overtime session. He won't receive a suspension as it's his first such penalty this season.
