Cents Crown Powell River Kings 4-1

Merritt, BC – October 13, 2011

The Merritt Centennials got three goals from defencemen as they snapped a six game winless skid with a 4-1 win over Powell River in BC Hockey League action Thursday night at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena.

The Kings opened the scoring at 2:01 of the first period on a goal by Brandon Tidy, but that was the only goal Powell River would score on the night.

Regan Soquila, Brandon Pfeil, Ross Mancuso and Reece Willcox scored for the Centennials while Soquila, Tyler Martin, Jakob Reichert, Evan Stack and Chad Brears each had assists.

Lino Chimienti kicked out 22 shots to get the win in goal for Merritt. Sean Maguire made 26 saves for the Kings as they suffered their third straight loss.

Merritt finished the night 1-for-1 on the power play while Powell River went 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

The Centennials Annual Parents' Weekend continues with a game Friday night against Salmon Arm at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena. It's the first meeting of the Cents and Silverbacks since last season's first round playoff series.
