Cents coach and GM Al Glendinning’s Contract Not Extended

Merritt, BC – The Merritt Centennials Junior 'A' Hockey Club's Board of Directors have voted to not offer head coach and general manager Al Glendinning a contract for the 2009-10 season.

Glendinning's contract expired on March 31, 2009 and the Board has announced that it will not be extended. The Centennials finished with a 13-44-0-3 record, last in the BCHL, and missed the playoffs for the second straight season.

“Our on-ice product needs to find the excitement and energy that has been evident in Merritt in the past,” stated acting Centennials President Tom Reynolds. “Our fans have been loyal and patient. They deserve better results than what we have delivered over the past two seasons. It's time for a change of direction and a new approach.”

“We appreciate the contributions that Al has made during the past seven years. We thank him for his hard work and dedication both on and off the ice and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

The search for a new head coach will begin immediately. Reynolds added, “This is an extremely important decision for our franchise and we want to make sure we choose the best person for the job.”
