The Merritt Centennials are excited to announce the signing of Right Shot, 19 year old Defenseman Sawyer Prokopetz from Wainfleet, Ontario. Sawyer stands 6’5″ 195lbs and is Committed to the University of Omaha-Nebraska. Sawyer comes to the Merritt Centennials from the Omaha Lancers USHL.
Sawyer played 46 games with Markham Royals OJHL scoring 4 goals and 14 assists in the 2022-23 season, along with 62 Penalty Minutes. This year Sawyer suited up 4 games with Omaha Lancers.
“Prokopetz is a big physical defenseman, he plays responsible and fits a need that upgrades our overall team game and toughness. A playoff type of player, he is a competitor and is hard to play against. Sawyer will play important minutes against opposition top lines and add to our penalty kill. As Sawyer gains confidence, he will really be able to progress his development further, with playing opportunity. Furthermore, he can chip in with some offence.”
