Seven Game Streak For the Cents With a 2-1 Win Over the Westside Warriors

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Merritt, BC – January 18, 2012

Chad Brears led the Cents to their seventh straight victory with two goals in their win against the Westside Warriors 2-1 in BC Hockey League action on Wednesday night at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena.

Brears scored both goals for the Cents (25-10-2-5) and both on the power play. Regan Soquila and Evan Stack each took home two assists apiece for the night.

Ben Betker of Westside (14-20-1-5) scored the lone goal for the Warriors part way through the second period.

Tyler Steel made 30 saves for Merritt in the win while Warriors goaltender Dwayne Rodrigue stopped 35 Cents shots.

It was a penalty heavy night with the Centennials going 2-for-9 on the power play. Despite many man advantage opportunities, Westside couldn't take advantage of any and went 0-5 on their power play chances.

With the win, the Cents have just six regulation losses in their last 35 games and continue to sit in second place in the BCHL's Interior Conference, twelve points ahead of Prince George and thirteen ahead of Chilliwack. Merritt is 15 points behind first place Penticton.

The Centennials next game is on Friday, January 20th against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs at the Weyerhaeuser Arena.
