Q&A With Cents Forward Dustin Johnson

This is the fourth installment of getting to know some of the Cents players who'll be returning with the team this season.

Today, it's 1990-born veteran forward, #14 ? Dustin Johnson.

Johnson is entering his third season with the Centennials and fourth season in the BCHL. Last season, the Penticton product led the Cents in scoring with 35 goals and 32 assists in 52 games. He finished the season on a six game assist streak and an eleven game point streak, tops in the league at the time. His 67 points was good enough as the 18th leading scorer in the BCHL and his 35 goals was tied for eighth-most in the league.

Cents:  How has your summer gone so far?

Dustin: My summer has been very good, I've been training hard and getting really excited about the upcoming season.

Cents:  Has your training changed from last summer to this summer at all?

Dustin: Actually, yeah, it's changed alot. I've put a lot more committment into my training this summer, especially my skating.

Cents:  Has your nutrition changed at all?

Dustin: Ha ha, yes it has, I'm eating right and working out. No more fast food for Johnny!

Cents: Did Coach Pierce tell you anything to work on specifically in the off-season?

Dustin: Yes, he asked me to put a lot of emphasis on improving my skating and fitness level.

Cents: How do you think you can continue to develop from the experience after Coach Pierce took over last season?

Dustin: I need to be a good person both on and off the ice. The main thing I've learned from Luke is how to be a role model in the community. You look around Merritt, everyone loves Luke. Now that this will be my third year with the Centennials, I am the longest serving player on the team and when I graduate, I want to be able to come back to the city and have people still know who I am and feel comfortable coming up and saying hi.

Cents: Are you excited to play against any team in particular this season?

Dustin: Penticton and Nanaimo, especially I always love to play against the teams that didn't want me.

Cents: Is there anyone in hockey you kind of model your game after?

Dustin: Cam Neely. A strong power forward who can score goals and drop the mitts every once in a while.

Cents: Thanks for this Dustin, and all the fans in Merritt are looking forward to your third season in a Centennials jersey.

Dustin: Thanks, I can't wait to get going!
