Clippers trade Grassi to Merritt

Forward Warren Muir is new member of Shipmen

The Nanaimo Clippers have traded a key component from their 2006-07 championship run.

ForwardMax Grassi, an 18-year-old North Vancouver native, who joined theClippers just before the trade deadline in January last season, hasbeen dealt to the Merritt Centennials for 17-year-old Warren Muir, whois from the Harbour City. Muir, however has never played a game withthe Cents. He was selected by Merritt this spring in the Williams LakeTimberwolves dispersal draft. He scored 10 goals and added 14 assistsfor 24 points (67 penalty minutes) for Williams Lake.

Muir, asix-foot, 180-pound right-handed shooter, played his minor hockey inNanaimo, last playing for the North Island Pack (now Silvertips) of theB.C. Major Midget League in 2005-06.

“We are thrilled to acquirea local player who will provide a strong and powerful physical presencein our uniform,” said Clippers' head coach/GM Bill Bestwick.

Grassiplayed 19 regular-season games with the Shipmen, after joining the teamfrom the 2005-06 league and Royal Bank Cup champion Burnaby Express. Hescored three goals and added 14 assists in league play, then added sixgoals and 13 helpers in 24 playoff games for the Clips.
