Cents Nip Salmon Arm 3-2 in Overtime

Salmon Arm, BC – November 2, 2011

Chad Brears scored the winning goal in overtime as the Merritt Centennials edged the Salmon Arm Silverbacks 3-2 in BC Hockey League action Wednesday night at the Sunwave Centre.

Brears scored 45 seconds into overtime on a power play to give Merritt (7-5-1-3) the win. Brendan Lamont, with his first in the BCHL, and Brent Fletcher also scored for the Centennials. Regan Soquila chipped in with two assists while Evan Stack added a single.

Bryce Gervais led Salmon Arm (3-8-0-4) with a goal and an assist while Brett Knowles added two assists. Morgan Zulinick also scored for the Silverbacks.

Tyler Steel made 26 saves in goal for the Cents to get the win and Adam Clark kicked out 32 Merritt shots in the 'Backs net.

The Centennials finished the night 1-for-3 on the power play while Salmon Arm went 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

With the win the Cents now have just one regulation loss in their last nine games and sit in third place in the BCHL's Interior Conference, three points ahead of Westside and Prince George. Merritt is two points back of second place Vernon and five points behind first place Penticton.

The Centennials next game is at home against Salmon Arm on Friday night, November 4th, against the Silverbacks.
