Cents Dump Trail 3-1

Merritt, BC – November 10, 2012

The Merritt Centennials are riding a two game winning streak after a 3-1 victory over the Trail Smoke Eaters in BCHL action on Saturday night at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena.

Trail (9-13-0-1) opened the scoring at 10:09 of the first period while Merritt (12-5-1-1) outshot the Smoke Eaters 12-10 in the opening frame.

Regan Soquila got the Centennials on the board at the 15:15 mark of the second period on a power play and the game was tied 1-1 heading to the third. Merritt outshot Trail 20-8 in the middle frame and 32-18 after 40 minutes.

The Cents tallied twice in the third period, first it was Brandon Bruce shorthanded at 9:39 and then Brendan Lamont iced it with an empty netter at 19:18. Merritt had the advantage on the shot clock 13-10 in the final stanza for a 45-28 advantage overall.

Kevin Lohan, Derek Huisman and Silvan Harper each notched assists in the victory.

Tyler Steel got the win in goal for the Centennials, making 27 saves. Lyndon Stanwood was outstanding for the Smoke Eaters, kicking out 43 Merritt shots in the loss.

The Cents finished the night 1-for-4 on the man advantage while Trail was 1-for-2 on its man advantages.

The Cents next game is Wednesday, November 14 as they continue their 40th season of junior 'A' hockey with their second meeting of the season against the Penticton Vees. Game time is 7 pm at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena.
