Cents and Vernon Tie 4-4

Vernon, BC – December 2, 2011

Chad Brears scored twice as the Merritt Centennials and Vernon Vipers battled to a 4-4 double overtime tie in BC Hockey League Friday night at the Wesbild Centre.

In addition to Brears two goals, Sean Maktaak had a goal and an assist for the Centennials (14-7-2-4). Dustin Lebrun had Merritt's other marker while Regan Soquila, Evan Stack and Brandon Bruce each notched an assist.

Darren Nowick led the Vipers (13-10-1-2) with three goals and an assist while Adam Tambellini also scored.

Lino Chimienti made 31 saves in goal for the Centennials and Kirby Halcrow kicked out 33 shots for Vernon.

Merritt went 0-for-7 on its man advantages while the Vipers were 0-for-3 on their power plays.

With the tie, the Cents have just three regulation losses in their last 20 games and sit in second place in the BCHL's Interior Conference, five points ahead of Vernon and Chilliwack. Merritt is 14 points behind first place Penticton.

The Centennials next game is a return match-up against Vernon in Merritt at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena on Saturday, December 3rd.
