Cents Acquire Stockie From Kitchener

Merritt, BC – The Merritt Centennials are proud to announce that forward Ashton Stockie will join the team for the 2017-18 BCHL season.

Stockie just turned 18 last week and is from Stratford, Ontario. This past season, he was a rookie for the Kitchener Dutchmen of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, and scored 12 goals and 22 assists for 34 points in 49 games. In the playoffs, he turned it up a notch, finishing second on the Dutchmen in scoring with four goals and six assists for 10 points in 11 games.

“Our scouting staff identified Ashton in the regular season and continued to watch his performance in the playoffs, where he played very well. Ashton attended our camp earlier this summer and was very impressive,” said Centennials GM and Head Coach Joe Martin. “He is a strong 200 foot player, very good in the faceoff circle, and someone we believe is just starting to hit his stride offensively. When meeting with Ashton, I was impressed with his maturity and values. Combine that with his work ethic and I’m confident he’ll succeed in our league.”

The Centennials welcome Ashton and the Stockie family to the organization on Monday, August 21st, the first day of training camp. The exhibition season starts on Wednesday, August 23rd in Merritt vs. the Salmon Arm Silverbacks at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena. The Cents 2017-18 home opener is Friday, September 8th vs. Penticton.
