Dane Birks (95) scored in the opening period for the Merritt Centennials on Friday night at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena, while the Trail Smoke Eaters picked up goals in each of the final two periods en route to a 2-1 victory.
With the loss, Merritt is now 2-1-0 in the pre-season while Trail improved to 2-1-0.
The Centennials are now preparing for the Prince George Spruce Kings in the final game of the exhibition schedule on Saturday night. Puck drop at the NVMA is 7:30 PM.

The Regular Season opens on Friday, September 6th at 4:00 PM as the Cents take on the Coquitlam Express in Chilliwack to open the 2013 BCHL Showcase. They will then face the Langley Rivermen on Sunday afternoon at 5:30.
Saturday, September 14th will be the Home Opener when the West Kelowna Warriors visit in the second half of a home-and-home series that begins the night prior.
