Alumni: Tyler Barr Signs Contract With SPHL’s Louisiana IceGators

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 8, 2012 – Lafayette, Louisiana

The Louisiana IceGators today announced they have signed Tyler Barr for the 2012-2013 season.  Barr, a native of North Vancouver, British Columbia, played four years of junior hockey in the BCHL (British Columbia Hockey League) and the AJHL (Alberta Junior Hockey League) proving himself as an enforcer.

In 130 games he had 43 points (13 goals, 20 assists) and 522 penalty minutes. After finishing junior, Tyler would join the Pensacola Ice Flyers for two seasons before spending last season between the FHL (Federal Hockey League) and CHL (Central Hockey League) with the New Jersey Outlaws, Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees and the Texas Brahmas.

During his professional career he has played 158 games, scored 18 goals, 21 assists for 39 points and 570 penalty minutes.

Coach Kaminski feels the 6’2”, 215 lbs., forward is a guy who is full of character, heart and toughness. “Tyler brings an unbelievable work ethic and desire to win.” said Kaminski. “He is the ultimate team player, a warrior and will go through the wall for his teammates to do whatever it takes to win.”

Kaminski also added, “Tyler’s leadership and drive to get better every day is outstanding. The fans of Lafayette will love what he brings to the ice.”

Barr played parts of four seasons in the BCHL, including 109 games with the Centennials, when he posted 31 points and 345 penalty minutes. He was traded to the AJHL's Spruce Grove Saints on October 29, 2008 in exchange for future considerations, which turned out to be forward Stephen Wall. Barr had seven points and 203 penalty minutes in 34 games with the Saints in 2008-09 to round out his junior career.
