Burnaby, BC – March 24, 2011

Former Merritt Centennials sniper Wade MacLeod set about making a good impression in his first game with the Springfield Falcons by scoring a highlight-reel goal in his first game of a professional tryout.

MacLeod received a long pass from defenceman David Savard, dangled Connecticut Whale defender Tomas Kundratek and sniped a shot high to the glove side past Whale goalie Dov Grumet-Morris.

The goal made it 1-0 Springfield but they would go on to lose the game 3-2.

MacLeod, a Coquitlam native, had signed with the Falcons – who are the Columbus Blue Jackets American Hockey League affiliate – recently and practised with the team Tuesday before suiting up on Wednesday evening.

His pro debut comes after a successful four-year career with the Northeastern University Huskies. MacLeod played 149 games for the team, a school record, and led the team in scoring in each of the last three seasons. He tallied 61 goals and 76 assists in his college career.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound left winger spent two seasons in Merritt and posted 65 goals and 81 assists in 101 games with the Cents including a 51-goal campaign in 2006-07.
