Alumni: Former Cents Forward Don Nachbaur Named WHL Coach of the Year

Former Merritt Centennials forward and current Spokane Chiefs head coach Don Nachbaur took home the Dunc McCallum Memorial Trophy as the league's top coach on Wednesday afternoon in the WHL's annual awards ceremony.

Nachbaur became the first coach in league history to win the award with three different franchises.  He had won it previously with Seattle in 1995 and again in Tri-City in 2008.  In his first season in Spokane, Nachbaur led the Chiefs to a 48-18-4-2 record and 102 points, third all-time in franchise history for both categories. He now has 479 career wins, sixth all-time in WHL history.

The 52-year-old from Kitimat played one season in the BC Hockey League with the Centennials, notching 22 goals and 27 assists in 54 games.
