Cents Acquire Forward Alex MacDonald from Alberni Valley

The Merritt Centennials announced today that 20-year-old forward Alex MacDonald and future considerations have been acquired from the Alberni Valley Bulldogs for 19-year-old goaltender Colten Lancaster.

“This trade addresses two things,” said Centennials General Manager and Head Coach Joe Martin. “Alex gives us some depth at right wing and leadership as a 20-year-old, while Colten going to Alberni Valley gives him a chance to get into some more games.”

MacDonald is entering his second season in the BCHL. The Windsor Junction, Nova Scotia product played 53 games for the Bulldogs in 2016-17, putting up 20 points (11 goals, nine assists) and 43 penalty minutes.

He played the previous two seasons at St. Andrew’s College, where he scored 134 points (59 goals, 75 assists) in 128 games and the Saints won back-to-back Conference of Independent Schools Athletics Association championships. MacDonald also was an alternate captain for St. Andrew’s in 2015-16.

He led the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League in goal scoring in 2013-14 with 27 and was named to the league’s Second All-Star Team.

Lancaster played 40 games for the Centennials over the last two seasons, with a combined record of 8-23-0, a 3.67 goals-against-average, and an .896 save percentage.

“Colten was a good player and teammate for us,” added Martin. “We’d like to thank him for his dedication over the last couple of years and wish him all the best with the Bulldogs.”
