Weekend Preview

WEEKEND PREVIEW: The Merritt Centennials, (10-13-2-1), have another full weekend ahead of them once again. They face the same teams that they saw last weekend, except it’s a switch of scenery, as the Cents see the West Kelowna Warriors, (16-12-1-0), at home at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena verses being at Royal Lepage Place, and then Saturday night sees the Cents over in Trail at the Cominco Arena instead of being at home to take on the Smokies like last weekend.

The Cents fell to the Warriors 7-2 last Friday night but with the Warriors falling 3-0 to the Penticton Vees, (18-5-1-2) tonight over in Penticton, it might just give the Cents a chance to redeem themselves. The goals from that game for the Cents came from Henry Cleghorn and Christian Sabin.

Saturday was a way different game for the Cents. They fell early to the Smoke Eaters but came back to win the game 3-2 in overtime thanks to leading scorer Henry Cleghorn. At 3:55 of the first, the Smoke Eaters opened the scoring, and quickly jumped up to a 2-0 lead in the second period, but at 18:54 of the second the Cents got onto the board thanks to Bradley Cocca, and with just under three minutes to play in the game, it was rookie Brendan Schneider who tied the game up and force overtime. Henry Cleghorn became the OT winner with scoring the goal unassisted at just 3:07 to give the Cents the 3-2 win and upset the Smoke Eaters.

Get your tickets for Friday nights game at home, and then listen live on Q101 with Jared Thomas starting at 6:45 on Saturday night for the pregame show and puck drop at 7:00 for the game in Trail.
