MERRITT, BC – The Merritt Centennials have acquired defender Grayson Valente (00) from the Alberni Valley Bulldogs in exchange for forward Josh Van Unen and future considerations (01).

Valente brings a much needed veteran presence to the blue line where he will instantly become the most experienced defender on the roster. The 6’3, 200 pound, Vancouver, BC native has played 3 seasons in the BCHL, all with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. In 138 games, Valente has 10 goals, 29 assists, and 143 penalty minutes.

Head Coach and General Manager Derek Sweet-Coulter says that Valente can contribute at both ends of the ice.

“Grayson is a big shutdown defenseman who has a long reach, skates well, and has the skill to make a good first pass and contribute offensively. He is a work horse who competes in all three zones and will be a welcomed veteran presence on our blue line.”

Josh Van Unen had 1 goal and 12 assists over an injury shortened 40 games this season. The younger brother of Mike and Rylan will be reunited with Head Coach Joe Martin in Alberni.

The Centennials would like to thank Josh and especially the Van Unen family who have been committed to the organization and community for over 5 seasons. Thank you for your tremendous show of support for the team, the Nicola Valley, and your sons during your time with the Cents.
