Thiessen named Hockey East ITECH Goalie of the Month

Northeastern Universitygoaltender Brad Thiessen has been named the Hockey East's ITECHGoaltender of the Month for November, the conference announced Tuesday.Thiessen anchored the Husky defense, which only allowed 19 goals ineight games, including five games against nationally-ranked opponents.

Thiessen and the Huskies went5-2-1 in the month of November bringing their overall record to 10-3-2as they lead Hockey East with a 7-2-1 mark. Thiessen played everyminute, making 238 saves for a .926 save percentage and 2.35 goalsagainst average.

In addition, senior Ryan Ginandwas runner-up for Hockey East Player of the Month and Alex Tuckermanwas runner-up for Rookie of the Month. In nine games, Ginand put upseven goals and two assists and Tuckerman had three goals and sixassists.

Northeastern is ranked sixth inthis week's USCHO.com/CBS College Sports poll and eighth in the USAToday/USA Hockey Magazine poll.

Thiessen started the month offstrong as he and the Huskies took on No. 6 New Hampshire. Thiessenallowed just two goals on 45 shots in the 2-2 tie at Matthews Arena.That, combined with the previous night's 33-save game, earned himDefensive Player of the Week honors.

The following week, the Huskiestook on the Falcons of Bentley University, which resulted in a 4-1 winwith Thiessen only being forced to make 18 saves. Northeastern thentopped No. 15 Vermont 5-3, and lost to No. 1 Boston University, 3-0,both on the road.

The Huskies answered back thefollowing weekend defeating both No. 13 UNH and UMass Lowell. Combined,Thiessen made 73 saves on 78 shots (.936 save percentage). That effortearned him his second Defensive Player of the Week honor of the month.

Over Thanksgiving break, theHuskies traveled to Troy, N.Y., for the 58th annual RPI HolidayTournament. Thiessen made 34 saves in a loss to No. 7 Princeton andstopped 25 shots in a win over RPI.

Thiessen played three seasons inthe British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) before coming toNortheastern. He split the 2005-06 season between the MerrittCentennials and the Prince George Spruce Kings posting an overallrecord of 22-21-4 with a 2.88 goals against average and a .922 savepercentage, which ranked third in the BCHL. He set a BCHL single-seasonrecord with seven shutouts and posted a league-record 250:25 shutoutstreak en route to BCHL All-Star honors.
