The Merritt Centennials are proud to announce that forward Payton Matsui (00) has committed to NCAA Division I program Alaska Fairbanks.
Matsui has been a leader in the locker room and on the ice this season, and his tenacious play has finally paid off in a scholarship. The Lakeville, Minnesota product currently sits second on the Centennials in scoring with 27 points in 41 games while sporting an ‘A’ on his jersey throughout the year.
Head Coach Derek Sweet-Coulter says Matsui has earned this opportunity.
“I am extremely proud of Payton. There’s one thing you can never question and that is his work ethic. Every game and every practice he goes as hard as he can and his motor never stops. We are all excited for him, but more importantly proud of how hard he has worked for his and persevered through adversity.”
Matsui and the Cents are in action tonight to take on the West Kelowna Warriors.
