New Recruits: Blake Astorino & Jack Henderson

The Merritt Centennials are pleased to announce they’ve added forward Blake Astorino (01) & Jack Henderson (02) from the Osoyoos Coyotes of the KIJHL for the upcoming season.

Both hailing from Northern BC, Astorino put up 14 goals and 23 assists in 49 games with the Coyotes. The Prince George native impressed during camp with his hard nosed play and willingness to get to the dirty areas.

Assistant Coach Levi Stuart says that Astorino is a crash and banger who has the work ethic and skills to boot.

“Blake is as character as they come, he will play through pain and faces all of his adversities head on. His work ethic is top notch and his leadership abilities make him a perfect fit with our group. He is a big body who is extremely hard to play against, physically punishing and has the skating and shot to go along with it. He is going to be loved at the NVMA.”

The Quesnel native, Henderson skated alongside Astorino on the Coyotes last season and in his first year of KIJHL play picked up 10 goals and 21 assists through 41 games.

Coach Stuart adds that Henderson is willing to do whatever it takes to help the team.

“Jack is an extremely good teammate and overall person, he does everything the right way. His work ethic on and off the ice is at an elite level and he will do anything for his team and community. Jack brings a ton of speed and energy on the ice along with his skill and shot he is a dangerous offensive player, especially when using his speed to beat defenders wide. He also brings along with him physicality and grit which make him tough to play against.”

The Cents welcome Blake, Jack and their families to the team and look forward to their contributions on the ice and in the community.

Merritt officially welcomes their new players to the team on Monday and will begin practicing as a group in advance of the season.
