New Recruit: Mark Thurston

The Merritt Centennials are pleased to announce that they’ve committed to forward Mark Thurston from the Delta Wild Academy of the CSSHL for the upcoming season.

A North Delta native, Thurston skated with the Elite 15 team last season in Delta. Through 34 games he tallied 8 goals and 10 assists with the 15s before getting into 8 games with the Prep team where he didn’t find the scoresheet.

Head Coach and GM Derek Sweet-Coulter says that Thurston brings size, skill, and humility.

“Mark is a big physical power forward that we are ecstatic to have in Merritt. He has no fear and goes to those hard areas of the ice and always finishes his check. He has a great skill set as well that compliments his overall 200 foot game. Mark is a humble young man that we look forward to working with.”

Thurston’s father, Brent, is an alumnus of the Centennials as well skating with now Assistant Coach Paul Barnes in the 87-88 season.

The Centennials would like to welcome Mark and his family to the Nicola Valley and look forward to his contributions on the ice and in the locker room.

Players are set to arrive next week to begin training for the upcoming season.
