The Merritt Centennials are pleased to announce that they’ve committed to goaltender Colton Phillips-Watts from the Kootenay Ice of the BC U18 AAA league for the upcoming season.
The Quesnel native started the year with the Cariboo Cougars before being sent to the Kootenay Ice. On a team that was outmatched most nights, Phillips-Watts routinely would face over 50 shots a game, but managed to put up a 2-15 record with a combined 3.15 GAA and a .906SV% in 20 games played. The southpaw catching goalie will look to grow into the BCHL and push veteran Josh Dias for starts.
Assistant Coach Levi Stuart says that Phillips-Watts is the kind of goalie that never throws in the towel.
“Colton is the definition of hard work and being physically fit. His battle level and willingness to never give up is off the charts. He gets across the net extremely fast and efficiently, and consistently makes saves that you do not expect to see him make. He will never be outworked, or make any excuses, he wants to save every puck.”
The Centennials welcome Colton and his family to the Nicola Valley and look forward to his contributions on the team and in the community.
Cents hockey is set to begin tomorrow as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
