Cents Trade Forward Mitch Lipon to Whitecourt

The Merritt Centennials announced Friday that 20-year-old forward Mitch Lipon has been traded to the Whitecourt Wolverines of the Alberta Junior Hockey League for the CJHL playing rights of 20-year-old forward Frederic Letourneau and future considerations.

“We wish Mitch the very best of luck with the Wolverines,” said Merritt GM and Head Coach Joe Martin. “We sincerely thank him for his dedication and commitment while wearing a Centennials jersey last season.”

Letourneau is from Boucherville, Quebec, and committed to Bowling Green State University for this September. He had 39 points (18 goals, 21 assists) in 56 games with Whitecourt in 2015-16.

Lipon played 54 regular season games with Merritt last year, posting 38 points (17 goals, 21 assists) and 45 penalty minutes. The Regina native was acquired by the Cents on September 12, 2015 from the Melville Millionaires of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for defenseman Matt Foley and future considerations. He is a veteran of 71 WHL games with Kamloops, Saskatoon, and Spokane.
