Cents Take On Smoke Eaters

PREVIEW: The Merritt Centennials, (11-13-2-1) started their weekend off with a 7-4 win last night over the West Kelowna Warriors, (16-13-1-0), and are looking for a weekend sweep as they take on the Trail Smoke Eaters, (19-7-2-0), tonight over in Trail.

 

Last night there were seven different goal scorers for the Cents; Joey Berkopec opened things up at the 17:17 mark of the first period with his fourth of the season, the rest of the Cents goals came from Nick Wicks, Rylan Van Unen, Zach Zorn, Brendan Schneider, and Henry Cleghorn, who now has 11 on the season.

 

Austin Roden turned away 46 shots facing 50 all together.

 

The Smoke Eaters are coming off a 6-3 loss to the Vernon Vipers, (20-7-0-4), last night. The last time that the Cents and Smokies met was just a week ago today where it was the Centennials that came out on top with a 3-2 win in a thrilling overtime win thanks to leading scorer Henry Cleghorn.

 

The Cents will be without the help of Rylan Van Unen as he’s off to the 2017 World Junior A Challenge Selection Camp. Head coach and GM Joe Martin will also be absent as he is also at the World Junior A Challenge serving as an assistant coach.
