Cents Sweep Weekend

POST GAME: The Merritt Centennials, (12,13-2-1), swept this past weekend winning both of their games, tonight picking up a 4-0 win over the Trail Smoke Eaters, (19-9-2-0), over in Trail.

At 4:35 of the first, the Cents got on the board, thanks to Christin Sabin, assists drawing from Matthew Kopperud and Jack Vincent. Just a few minutes later, it was veteran Chase Bell that got on the board and was set up from Mathieu Gosselin and Henry Cleghorn. Jake Berger faced 11 shots in the first while Smokies goaltender Tanner Marshell saw just eight shots.

The second period was quiet as there were no goals, but lots of opportunities for the Smoke Eaters but could not get the puck past Berger, or Mike Van Unen who helped Berger stop the puck on a couple of major opportunities.

The third period saw a short handed goal and a power play for the Cents. Both of those goals came from Zach Zorn who is second in leading in scorer on the team behind Henry Cleghorn. Cleghorn had two assists on two of the four goals tonight. Tyrell Buckley picked up the assist along with Cleghorn on Zorn’s first goal, while Nick Wicks and Bradley Cocca picked up the assists on Zorn’s other goal.

Jake Berger picked up the shutout win; his second of the season. He turned away 41 shots.

The next game action for the Centennials is Friday December 8th as they welcome the Wenatchee Wild, (19-8-2-1) to town. It is also the Centennials Teddy Bear Toss night so make sure you bring your teddy bears to toss on the ice for when the Cents score their first goal of the game!
