Cents goaltender Jacob Berger commits to Minnesota State University, Mankato

The Merritt Centennials announced today that goaltender Jacob Berger has committed to Minnesota State University, Mankato (NCAA Div. I) for the 2018-19 season.

Berger, who’s from Minnetonka, Minnesota, has spent the last two seasons in Merritt, posting a 28-36-2 record along with a 3.15 goals-against-average, a .913 save percentage and three shutouts. The 20-year-old had a 7-4 record in the 2017 BCHL playoffs to go with a 2.88 GAA and a .920 SV%.

“We are very happy for Jake and his family. Getting to play in his home state for the eighth ranked team in the country is a great opportunity,” said Centennials General Manager and Head Coach Joe Martin. “Jake’s commitment to our team is outstanding. He works hard every day and enjoys being a big contributor to our success.”

Minnesota State University, Mankato alumni includes current Boston Bruins centre David Bakes and Dallas Stars centre Tyler Pitlick along with former NHLers Tim Jackman, Ryan Carter, and Grant Stevenson.

Berger is the fifth member of this season’s Cents roster committed to a college hockey program, joining Zach Court (University of Alaska-Anchorage), Zach Risteau (St. Lawrence University), Brendan Schneider (Mercyhurst University) and Brad Cocca (Harvard University).
