Cents Get Revenge On Wild

POST WEEKEND: The Merritt Centennials, (18-22-4-1), got their revenge over the Wenatchee Wild, (30-13-3-1), on Saturday night with a 3-2 win.

The Wild jumped up to a 1-0 lead at the 10:04 mark of the first period with Sam Hesler getting the puck past Jacob Berger. The Cents weren’t about to go down without a fight though, just 44 seconds into the second period, it was Zach Zorn who scored a beautiful goal to tie the game up, 1-1. Just a few minutes later, Henry Cleghorn scored a gorgeous goal to make the game 2-1; Cleghorn playing his 150th game in the BCHL, while captain Tyrell Buckley played his 200th BCHL game, both players playing all of those games with the Centennials.

At 7:23 of the second, Joey Berkopec got the team going by dropping the mitts with the Wild’s Murphy Stratton, both players would hit the showers early; at the 11:26 mark of the period, it was Rylan Van Unen dropping the mitts to square off with Zak Galambos. The 16:40 mark saw Rylan’s twin brother Mike Van Unen go off for a 10 minute misconduct for a blow to the head.

At the 12:05 mark, Brendan Schneider was set up from Zach Risteau and Schneider put the puck past Seth Eisele to make it 3-1 for Merritt. The 18:42 mark the Wild got back within one thanks to Slava Demin but it wasn’t enough as the Cents held on for a 3-2 victory.

Next game day action for the Centennials goes Wednesday night as they hit the road once again to take on the Vernon Vipers, (31-13-1-4). Pregame on Q101 with Jared Thomas goes at 6:45 with puck drop set for 7:00. Make sure to follow the Centennials on twitter; @BCHLCentennials.
